What does repair shop software do?
It brings the jobs a repair counter does every day into one place:
- Booking repairs in: the customer, the device, the fault and its condition, written down at the counter.
- Tracking each repair: a set of stages from booked in to collected, so anyone in the shop can see where a job is.
- Quotes: sending the customer a price and getting a yes or no before the work starts.
- Selling: a till for accessories, devices and repairs, with receipts.
- Stock: parts, accessories and devices, so you know what you have before you promise a repair.
- Customers: each person’s repairs, purchases and devices in one record.
Who is it for?
Independent phone repair shops, electronics and laptop repair shops, and shops that sell new and used devices alongside repairs. A shop with one counter benefits as much as a shop with several, because the problems it solves (lost tickets, missed calls, unknown stock) start with the first busy Saturday.
What should a UK repair shop look for?
- Repairs and sales in one system. If the till and the repair tickets are separate, you type everything twice.
- Devices by IMEI or serial number. Phones are not like phone cases: each one is a single unit with its own history.
- Second-hand phones and VAT. If you buy phones in and you’re VAT-registered, check how the software keeps the records for the VAT margin scheme.
- Staff permissions. Who can give a discount, refund a sale or see your profit should be your decision.
- Customer updates. Customers who can check a repair themselves ring the shop less.
- What it doesn’t do. Every system has gaps. Ask for them up front: offline use, card payments, text messages and integrations are the usual ones.
How Fixory does it
Fixory is repair shop software for UK phone and electronics repair shops. It runs in a web browser, so there’s nothing to install. Repairs are booked in with the customer, device, fault and condition notes, and each repair moves through set stages, from booked in to collected. Customers approve quotes from a link on their phone and check their repair’s progress online.
At the till, scanning a barcode adds a product to the basket, and scanning a device’s IMEI sells that exact unit. New and used devices are kept as stock one unit at a time. Each customer’s sales, repairs and trade-ins are in one record, and you can buy a customer’s device into your used stock. Staff get one of four roles, and you fine-tune what each person can do.
To be plain about the gaps: Fixory has no offline mode, and it doesn’t send SMS or connect to e-commerce services. Fixory Pro and Fixory Business integrate with Xero and Stripe, for trade invoicing and online card payments from trade customers.
Questions to ask before you choose
- Can I see it working with a repair like the ones I take in every day?
- What does it cost each month, and what does a second shop cost?
- How do I get my products and customers into it?
- What happens to my data if I leave?
- What doesn’t it do yet?
Questions shop owners ask
Do I need repair shop software if I already have a till?
A till records sales, but it doesn't follow a repair from booking in to collection. If you take in more than a few repairs a day, a system that tracks each job, its parts and its customer saves the phone calls and lost tickets that a till alone can't.
What's the difference between repair shop software and an EPOS system?
An EPOS system sells products. Repair shop software also books repairs in, tracks their stages, gets quotes approved and keeps the device's details, usually with an EPOS till built in.
Does Fixory run on a shop computer or in the cloud?
Fixory runs in a web browser, so there's nothing to install on the shop computer. It doesn't have an offline mode, so the shop needs an internet connection.
Can repair shop software handle VAT on second-hand phones?
Some can. Fixory has an optional VAT margin scheme for second-hand phones that keeps a stock book of each phone bought in and sold and works out the VAT on the margin.
